Kristen Shuyler began writing web pages in 1994 when she created the Geography Club web site at the University of Oregon -- and immediately sensed the potential of the internet.
Kristen has had a stellar career so far, graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Oregon in 1997 with the highest GPA of her department. She has worked for the National Geographic Society and the U.S. Census Bureau, and is currently completing her Master's Degree in Geography at the University of Washington.
Kristen has been creating web pages almost continuously throughout her academic and professional careers, earning a well-deserved reputation as a prolific and talented web designer. She has designed web pages for the Biology Department at the University of Oregon, the Geography Department at the University of Washington, and was responsible for the redesign of several of the U.S. Census Bureau web pages.
In 1999, Kristen co-founded Yeti Arts, Inc. (with Ryan Ositis and Aaron Louie) as an outlet for her creative and organizational talent. "The lack of quality in most web sites is astounding," Kristen says. "I really think some prior planning and good design can make a significant difference in a visitor's attitude towards a site."
Kristen's describes her design philosophy as almost spartan, and focuses on creating well-organized sites. "People don't realize it, but a lot of work goes into the creation of what is known as metadesign. The purpose of metadesign is to create the optimal architecture for the information, so you can find out what you need to know as quickly as possible."
